The Miller Family web site has awarded Pet-of-the-Year to Bear Price. Bear, two and half years old, is a fifty-pound Black Lab mix. Bear’s motto is "I loyally obey every command–if it’s convenient." A joint statement issued by Bear’s owners said "It took a lot of hard work, clean living, and a belief in the American Way. We’re very proud of Bear and hope he’ll now find it convenient to obey commands, especially with the NASDAQ on the fritz."

The Avondale Garden Club awarded the July 2000 Yard-of-the-Month to Phil, great grandson of Margaret Mae Brown of the famed Brown Flower Shop in Dallas, Texas, "It took a lot of hard work, clean living, and a belief in the American Way," Phil said in an interview with the Avondale Times. "Even with the NASDAQ on the fritz, I was still able get out there and do the work that my great grandmother taught me."
