Phil Wins Yard-of-the-Month.
The Avondale Garden Club awarded the July 2000 Yard-of-the-Month to Phil, great grandson of Margaret Mae Brown of the famed Brown Flower Shop in Dallas, Texas, "It took a lot of hard work, clean living, and a belief in the American Way," Phil said in an interview with the Avondale Times. "Even with the NASDAQ on the fritz, I was still able get out there and do the work that my great grandmother taught me."
Bear Wins Pet-of-the-Year.
The Miller Family web site has awarded Pet-of-the-Year to Bear Price. Bear, two and half years old, is a fifty-pound Black Lab mix. Bear's motto is "I loyally obey every command--if it's convenient." A joint statement issued by Bear's owners said "It took a lot of hard work, clean living, and a belief in the American Way. We're very proud of Bear and hope he'll now find it convenient to obey commands, especially with the NASDAQ on the fritz."

Phil and Bob c1956.
This is a classic. Was Bob mugging for the camera or was this his day-to-day faraway look?
Inner-city kids lounging on porch steps, 1955.
The group seems to have an attitude problem. Note the "Davy Crockett" T-shirt on Jim, Webster hiding (who wouldn't?) next to Jim, and those cool two-tones that Phil is wearing.

Tom and Bob: the War Years.
The courageous brothers returned to Memphis from World War II without injury or illness. This picture was made on Felix Avenue. The Model A Ford was named "Dizzie Lizzie". TMM, Sr. loved the old Fords because "you could fix anything with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver". The composition here ("people with license plate in background") was a signature of TMM.

Cora Maybelle Riley.
This picture predates our first washing machine (which didn't have the cycles of today's; you had to drain and fill with a hose, and it had hand-cranked rubber rollers for squeezing the water out of clothes). This picture was taken in Fort Worth, Texas, just after she came to work for us in the 1940s. Cora continued to work for us in Memphis and Atlanta.
Christmas Card, 1940.
The traditional Miller homemade Christmas card. For all photos of this era, we did the photography and developing and printing at home.
